Mirror, Signal, Success is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This policy sets out how we protect learners under the age of 18 and how safeguarding concerns are identified, managed, and escalated.

This policy applies to:

  • All learners under 18
  • All instructors, contractors, and franchise instructors
  • All lessons, test-day activities, and communications

1. Definition of a Child

For the purposes of this policy, a child is any learner under the age of 18.

2. Safeguarding Principles

We are committed to:

  • Providing a safe learning environment
  • Acting in the best interests of the child at all times
  • Taking all safeguarding concerns seriously
  • Working within UK safeguarding legislation and guidance

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

3. Roles & Responsibility

The Safeguarding Lead is responsible for:

  • Receiving safeguarding concerns
  • Assessing risk
  • Deciding on appropriate action
  • Liaising with parents, guardians, and authorities where required

4. Learner Accounts & Parental Responsibility

  • Learners under 18 may hold their own user account.
  • A parent or legal guardian with parental responsibility must also be identified.
  • All contracts and lesson agreements must be accepted and signed by both the learner and the parent or guardian.
  • Parents or guardians are responsible for:
    • Payments
    • Attendance
    • Behaviour
    • Compliance with all policies

5. Safe Working Practices

Instructors must:

  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times
  • Avoid inappropriate language or behaviour
  • Never engage in personal or social relationships with learners
  • Ensure lessons are conducted transparently and professionally
  • Follow lesson location restrictions and agreed start/end points

Instructors must not:

  • Share personal contact details beyond approved business channels
  • Meet learners outside agreed lesson arrangements
  • Transport learners outside authorised lesson purposes

6. Supervision & Environment

  • Lessons take place in instructor vehicles equipped with dashcam and cabin cameras.
  • Lesson notes are recorded electronically and agreed with the learner.
  • Start and end locations are agreed in advance and remain within defined boundaries.

7. Recognising Safeguarding Concerns

Safeguarding concerns may include:

  • Disclosure of abuse or neglect
  • Changes in behaviour or emotional state
  • Signs of fear, distress, or vulnerability
  • Inappropriate behaviour from adults or peers

Concerns may arise during lessons, communications, or account interactions.

8. Responding to a Safeguarding Concern

If a safeguarding concern arises:

  1. The instructor listens calmly and does not promise confidentiality.
  2. The concern is reported immediately to the Safeguarding Lead.
  3. A factual record is made, including dates and observations.
  4. The Safeguarding Lead assesses the concern and determines next steps.

Where there is an immediate risk of harm, emergency services will be contacted.

9. Reporting & Escalation

Where appropriate, safeguarding concerns may be shared with:

  • Parents or legal guardians
  • Local authority children’s services
  • Police or emergency services
  • Other relevant safeguarding agencies

Information is shared only on a need-to-know basis.

10. Confidentiality & Data Protection

Safeguarding information is:

  • Treated as confidential
  • Stored securely
  • Shared only where necessary to protect the learner

Data handling follows our Privacy Policy and UK GDPR requirements.

11. Instructor Training & Awareness

Instructors are expected to:

  • Be familiar with this policy
  • Remain alert to safeguarding issues
  • Act promptly when concerns arise
  • Seek guidance where unsure

Failure to follow safeguarding procedures may result in disciplinary action or termination.

12. Breach of Safeguarding Policy

Any breach of this policy may result in:

  • Immediate suspension of teaching duties
  • Termination of instructor or franchise agreements
  • Referral to appropriate authorities where required

13. Policy Review

This policy is reviewed annually and may be updated at any time where required.

Updates take effect upon publication on this website.

By booking lessons or providing instruction under the Mirror, Signal, Success brand, all parties confirm acceptance of this Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy.
