Mirror, Signal, Success Instructor Code of Conduct Last updated: 01 January 2026
This Instructor Code of Conduct sets out the standards, responsibilities, and expectations for all instructors providing services under the Mirror, Signal, Success brand, including franchise instructors and contractors.
Compliance with this Code is mandatory.
1. Professional Standards
Instructors must:
- Act professionally at all times
- Treat learners with respect and patience
- Deliver instruction in a calm, safe, and lawful manner
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with learners
Instructors represent the Mirror, Signal, Success brand and are expected to uphold its reputation at all times.
2. Safety & Legal Compliance
Instructors must:
- Comply with all road traffic laws and DVSA requirements
- Prioritise safety over lesson progression or learner preference
- Take immediate action where safety is compromised
- Refuse or terminate lessons where a learner is unfit to drive
Instructor judgment relating to safety is final.
3. Lesson Delivery
Instructors are responsible for:
- Planning and delivering appropriate lesson content
- Setting learning pace and progression
- Assessing readiness for more advanced driving and test preparation
- Ensuring lessons begin and end within agreed locations and boundaries
Instructors must not teach content they believe is unsafe or inappropriate for the learner’s ability.
4. Test Readiness & Test Day Use
Instructors must:
- Make independent decisions regarding test readiness
- Refuse use of the instructor’s vehicle for a test where the learner is not test-ready
- Act in the learner’s best interests and protect road safety
Test readiness decisions must not be influenced by pressure from learners or third parties.
5. Conduct & Behaviour
Instructors must not:
- Use abusive, aggressive, or discriminatory language
- Engage in inappropriate personal relationships with learners
- Allow unsafe or unlawful behaviour to continue during lessons
- Consume alcohol or drugs before or during lessons
Professional boundaries must be maintained at all times.
6. Recording & Data Handling
Instructors must:
- Complete lesson records electronically at the end of each lesson
- Agree lesson notes with the learner
- Use dashcam and cabin recordings appropriately and lawfully
- Handle personal data in line with the Privacy Policy
Recordings must not be shared outside the business without authorisation.
7. Vehicle Care
Instructors are responsible for:
- Maintaining vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness
- Reporting damage or incidents promptly
- Ensuring dual controls and safety equipment are functional
Vehicles must not be used for unauthorised purposes.
8. Communication
Instructors must:
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with learners
- Avoid making guarantees or promises regarding test outcomes
- Refer complaints or disputes to the appropriate business process
Instructors must not contradict published policies or make informal agreements outside them.
9. Franchise & Independent Status
Where instructors operate as franchisees or independent businesses:
- They are responsible for their own business compliance
- They must operate in accordance with Mirror, Signal, Success brand standards
- They must not represent themselves as agents or employees of the company
Failure to comply may result in termination of the franchise or brand agreement.
10. Breach of Code
Breaches of this Code of Conduct may result in:
- Formal warnings
- Suspension of teaching under the brand
- Termination of instructor or franchise arrangements
Serious breaches may result in immediate termination without notice.

By providing instruction under the Mirror, Signal, Success brand, instructors confirm acceptance of this Instructor Code of Conduct.
