This Lesson Policy sets out how driving lessons are delivered, the standards expected of learners, and the authority instructors hold to ensure safety, legality, and effective instruction.

This policy applies to all lessons provided by Mirror, Signal, Success, including franchise instructors operating under the brand.

1. Lesson Start & End Locations

  • Lessons may start and end at different locations, provided they are agreed in advance.
  • All lesson start and end locations must be within a 15-minute drive of one of the following base locations:
    • Heddle Road, Andover, SP11 6WY
    • Wigmore Road, Baughurst, Tadley, RG26 4HJ
  • Instructors will ensure the learner is returned to the pre-agreed location at the end of the lesson, subject to safety and road conditions.

Instructors will not agree to locations outside these boundaries.

2. Instructor Authority & Vehicle Control

  • Instructors may take full control of the vehicle at any time, including use of dual controls and verbal direction.
  • Instructors may terminate a lesson immediately if they believe safety is compromised.
  • Where a lesson is terminated early, the instructor will ensure the learner is returned safely to the agreed location where reasonably possible.

Instructor decisions made in the interest of safety are final.

3. Fitness to Drive

Instructors may refuse to commence or continue a lesson if a learner is deemed unfit to drive due to, including but not limited to:

  • Illness
  • Fatigue
  • Emotional distress
  • Alcohol or drug use
  • Any condition affecting concentration, judgement, or safety

Where a lesson is refused or terminated for fitness or safety reasons, the lesson remains chargeable.

4. Behaviour During Lessons

The following are not permitted during lessons:

  • Aggressive or abusive behaviour
  • Discriminatory language or conduct
  • Smoking inside the vehicle
  • Illegal use of mobile phones while driving

Vaping is permitted only when safe to do so and at the instructor’s discretion.

Learners may request to stop for smoking breaks; this time is taken from the booked lesson time.

Breaches of behaviour standards may result in immediate lesson termination without refund.

5. Passengers

Passengers are not automatically permitted during lessons.

Passengers may only be carried:

  • With prior approval, and
  • At the instructor’s discretion

The instructor may refuse passengers without providing a reason.

6. Lesson Records & Recording

  • Lesson notes are recorded electronically at the end of each lesson, agreed with the learner.
  • Vehicles are fitted with dashcam and cabin cameras for safety, training, and evidential purposes.
  • Recordings are used in accordance with our Privacy Policy and are not released unless required by law or for legitimate business reasons.

7. Lesson Content, Pace & Progress

  • Instructors determine:
    • Lesson content
    • Learning pace
    • Progress decisions
    • Test readiness
  • Learners may discuss lesson preferences; however, instructors will not teach content they consider unsafe or inappropriate at that stage.

Instructor judgement regarding readiness and progression is final.

8. Damage, Cleanliness & Charges

Learners may be held responsible for:

  • Cleaning costs where excessive dirt or mess could reasonably have been avoided
  • Insurance excess costs where damage is caused through learner negligence

Learners are not charged for unavoidable incidents such as:

  • Nosebleeds
  • Sudden illness
  • Accidents beyond reasonable control

9. Weather & Road Conditions

Instructors may:

  • Cancel, shorten, or modify lessons due to weather or road conditions
  • Adjust lesson content to suit conditions

Where a lesson is modified rather than cancelled, it remains chargeable.

10. Final Authority

Instructor discretion applies at all times during lessons.

Decisions made in the interests of safety, legality, or effective instruction are final and not subject to dispute during the lesson.

By attending lessons, learners (and where applicable, parents or guardians) confirm acceptance of this Lesson Policy & Instructor Discretion.
